Berkeley Rose Garden

The Berkeley Rose Garden was built as a Civil Works Administration  project.  I love seeing these projects that put people back to work during the depression.  There were a few roses blooming but I'll go back in a few weeks and catch the roses at their peak.   The bushes were just covered in buds.   The rose garden is in a canyon and is built in amphitheater style so you can imagine how beautiful it is when the flowers are in full bloom  This "Yellow Rose of Texas" did catch my eye.    There are also beautiful views from the gardens of San Francisco Bay.  Across from the rose garden is Codornices Park.  I walked on some of the trails until the bench in the photo caught my eye.  It was a great place to sit and read for a while.  My iTouch always goes with me and I usually have several books to choose from.  A nice relaxing day after  all the walking I did yesterday.
